Lodging is available in a field of wildflowers with an incredible view of the Selkirks and Purcells and the Columbia Valley below. There is a campfire and a camper with a propane stove and fridge. There is a picnic table. There is at least one bathtub which we heat every night by lighting a fire under it. There may be a second tub if I can get my hands on one.
There are pay showers in the town of Golden and actual motels and hotels and even a really cute bed & breakfast with a good restaurant and bakery attached to it. But camping on the field is really the best. Check out this sunset. You get one of those almost every night and they last for around 45 minutes.
The weather in the summer is pretty nice. There is lots of sun, but you can get cloudy and drizzly days and some pretty fierce rainstorms. The temperature is in the 70s and 80s, but the sun can be intense. The mountains get fairly cold at night.
There is only one bad thing in Golden, but if it's something that bugs you then it can be pretty bad. The MOSQUITOES. There are shitloads of these evil bastards. They are pretty slow, but relentless. I seemed to grow immune over the summer (except my ankles), but I almost fell off the roof or a ladder many times trying to smash one of these in the middle of my back. They go away at dark and they don't like the campfire and we're going to have some screened structures up, so it's not all bad. But be mentally prepared.
