Here's the story. My friend Robson, one of my best friends since 10th grade, purchased land outside the town of Golden, British Columbia to begin his homestead project with his wife Heidi. I spent most of last summer there with him and some other freaks building a guest house/sauna and framing his main house. Robson is Super Outdoor Master, level 13 who runs an Alpine hiking company and freelances as a heli-skiing, kayaking guide. His wife Heidi is slaving her way to becoming a licensed naturopath.
After a summer spending quality time with my BC friends and enjoying the life of Golden, I realized that I must become part of Robson's master plan. I decided to buy a plot of land and build my own contribution to the Mount Seven homestead. I've got many plans. My first is to build a place for people to watch movies, hang out and party. It's going to be a 20' x 40' post and beam frame with bale wrapped walls and an outdoor deck on two sides. I'm going to put a little cooking area in the back, but most of the rest of the space will be open. I'm going to have a bunch of couches and a ridiculous music and viewing setup (powered by the sun). The idea is to have a communal hangout where large groups of people can watch movies or put the couches outside and party and dance. I estimate this project will take me at least two summers to complete.
There is much more to tell, but if you want to learn it all, you're going to have to come out and see for yourself!
