Well, um, let's see.
First, I'm going to be spending the majority of my time working. This means widening the road, clearing the land (and watching a bulldozer doing most of the work), laying a foundation, putting up the frame, putting up the roof, building strawbale walls, etc. I would be psyched if you wanted to come and help me.
But if you are not so inclined, I will be just as happy to have you around. And you can use Mt. Seven as a starting point for your B.C. adventures. There is awesome hiking, climbing, biking, fishing, river-rafting and all those outdoor sports all over the Golden area and beyond. We are are a couple hours from some of the most beautiful national parks in Canada. Check out the links page for more detailed information.
The town of Golden is an adventure unto itself. There is a movie theatre with $4 tuesdays (a regular tradition for us), the Mad Trapper pub with excellent beer and a decent burger, a few good restaurants (well, one) and a strip joint. In late August, Golden hosts the Golden Rodeo and that is also something you must attend.
If you want to travel a little farther, you should definitely visit the Okanagan Valley. It's Canada's main agricultural center and has all kinds of awesome fruit stands and lakes and taffy and all that stuff. It starts about three hours west of Golden.
On Mt. Seven itself, most nights are barbecue night on the open fire. We usually spend an hour or two sitting around the campfire, watching the sunset, drinking quality Canadian beer and talking. If we're lucky, Robson's brother Conrad and his sidekick Master Thomas, both brewmasters, will roll into town with kegs of their choicest selections. We tend to stay up later on those occassions.
Also, for those winter-sport enthusiasts, Golden is the place to be. The Kicking Horse Resort is about a half an hour away from us.
